Hernando Computer Club Press Release: The new Board for 2009
The Board lost several Directors in 2009. Some did not run for re-election; others resigned for health or personal reasons. The largest loss for the Club is Don Karslake who fell seriously ill. His enthusiasm for the club and his hard work propelled the membership from around 250 to over 600 members. The wide selection of classes, made available in a timely manner, helped to create this amazing success.
The President of the Club is now Brigitte Haag. For three years she has been
Education and Communication Director and instructor. Her goal is to
create a friendly and supportive environment where the members can find
exactly what they joined the Club for: low cost computer related
education and some social activities. She will also be the Communication
Director and, temporarily, the Program Director until a volunteer can be
found to head the Program Department. Ron Purkhiser, formerly the
Facility Director and popular instructor, will be Vice President and head
the Education Department. Pat Turek, a new Board Member, will be the
Club's Treasurer, and Judy King, the Membership Director will volunteer
as Secretary until a Secretary is elected.
Gray Alexander, a knowledgeable engineer, will head the Facility
Department. Not only will he maintain the Club's PCs and other equipment, he will also clean out donated PCs and prep them for reuse and donation to the community. As Community Service Director he will also stay on as
instructor. JuDee Caquelin, Director at Large, edits the monthly
Newsletter and assembles all Hands-on Classes, which is a very
challenging job. Judy King is the Membership Director and is looking to
find a Volunteer Coordinator. Bob Alford stays Director at Large.
These are only 7 Board members; our Bylaws call for 11. We need a full Board to keep the Club operating efficiently and particularly to prevent overload to the current members. If you have been a member of the Club for at least three months, have benefitted from the Club and enjoy what it offers, and perhaps have skills from your working career that would help, won't you please consider joining the Board? Just contact any Board member to express your interest.
